What is Lactoferrin?

Lactoferrin is a multifunctional protein from the transferrin family (a carrier of trace elements in the blood, such as iron, copper and zinc), which occurs naturally in the human body.

It is represented in exocrine secretions and especially in blood plasma and white blood cells. Large amounts of lactoferrin are contained in tears.

What are the Benefits

Lactoferrin is present in small amounts in all body fluids, as it is part of innate immunity. It is therefore its own in the human body, it can recognize and accept it without reactions.. Moreover, no resistance towards it has been recognized so far. Lactoferrin is effective for all of us, regardless of gender and age.

Lactoferrin consists of 700 amino acids and it is very interesting that human and bovine lactoferrin differ only in 2 amino acids, while in individual people it can differ in up to 8 amino acids.

Lactoferrin, used in various products of other companies, is processed from whey – a waste material arising from the production of cottage cheese and cottage cheese products. However, in comparison, this whey lactoferrin reaches a maximum of 20% quality.

What is Lactoferrin Nativity

This is a very important parameter of lactoferrin quality. The lactoferrin molecule has two large lobes and their connection plays a very important role. If lactoferrin is native (not destroyed by heat, friction, enzymes or chemicals), this joint is flexible and can move actively well. When lactoferrin is denatured (destroyed), it looks the same, but its activity is dramatically reduced. Therefore, we emphasize that lactoferrin is processed by state-of-the-art technology from fresh skimmed milk and not from whey production, as is the case with other products on the market.

An important factor for the high quality of lactoferrin is the degree of saturation with iron, but also with copper or zinc. For the cells to function properly in the body, it is essential to maintain a constant level of these trace elements. Under normal circumstances, lactoferrin saturation varies between 10 – 30%. When lactoferrin is more than 80% saturated with iron, its antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory activity decreases rapidly. Our lactoferrin undergoes strict control of iron saturation and its value is only 23%, i.e. very low. And that is the secret of its extreme effect.

Lactoferrin circulates in the blood, literally stuffing white blood cells. It strengthens our non-specific innate immunity. It regulates the content of iron, copper and zinc in the body. It also helps fight viruses and bacteria while preventing them from multiplying further. Lactoferrin is stable against acids and enzymes, which is a huge advantage. Any inflammation in the body means acidification of the inflamed tissue and many active substances (antibiotics, chemotherapeutics) lose their effectiveness in this environment. Lactoferrin is still active and effective even within inflammation.
